What is your favourite thing about designing for ecommerce?
One of my favourite things about designing for ecommerce is the piecing together, the collision. There’s always idiosyncrasies of a brand’s history and reason for being, development of a fitting visual identity, and a confident, designated space for the brand’s output—all for a person to journey through online. I’d like to hope that what I design for in a digital experience is the most practical for a new customer, and flexible for that brand to use.
What ecommerce trend do you hate?
Having an Add to Cart button super difficult to find. A simple, straightforward solution shouldn’t be complicated.
Where do you go for design inspiration?
I look at various resources and material depending on what it is I’m designing, and who I’m designing for. I enjoy reading books around sociology, and talking with/listening to people inside and outside of my field to help formulate new thoughts. I prefer this rather than purely looking at websites. Most recently, I’ve been heads down in the Hall of Femmes book series published by Oyster Press. I’ve read all of them. I find much to relate to, and value the rich information in the interviews with female leads of the design world.
What's your favourite web font?
I love this question.
Who's your current ecomm crush?
CCKW and The Nue Co. Not only are the people behind them wonderful, the use of the digital real-estate is smart, and I like getting a literal sense of the grid system the sites are built upon. I will also always love Need Supply’s digital experience. Their brand sits confidently and comfortably in the backseat, their product offering is always heightened, and the experience is smooth.

What's your jam while working?
Spotify radio is quite good at understanding my preferences. Always have something with upbeat drumming and guitar while working. Lately, Basement (new album this October!)
What's your favourite Shopify app and why?
ReCharge is one of the best options for re-occuring subscriptions, and has been exclusive for Shopify. I’ve used it on various Shopify ecommerce projects, and find it easy to set-up with the developer, and quick with the ReCharge team to answer any Qs. Another fresh app is Flow—super for ecommerce automation to make our lives easier and keep businesses more efficient.
How did you start designing Shopify sites?
I started designing Shopify sites at Wondersauce. One of my first projects at the ‘sauce was to help Beth Ditto’s new clothing brand come to life.
What's the best design advice someone has given you?
I have two. First, to write and read more often. We are communicators—and words play a huge role in not only articulating our thoughts, but establishing a brand’s voice and complexion. Secondly, to learn to say no for the right reasons—it’s totally okay.
What Shopify project are you most proud of?
I’m super proud of Corpus Naturals, published this July. Corpus is a new, effective natural deodorant brand. Everything about this project encapsulates my favorite reasons for designing, and designing for ecommerce.
